Exposition coloniale

Exposition Coloniale combines posters from colonial exhibitions with illustrations and photographs of everyday objects featuring colonial, caricatural, and racist representations.
The still images are arranged chronologically and then assembled into a video sequence, turning their historical progression into a temporal continuum. Temporal scanning then compresses different moments from this sequence into a single image, where representations from separate sources overlap and interweave.
Their juxtaposition shows how colonial imagery extends beyond exhibitions and propaganda into visual culture and everyday objects, where caricature and racist stereotypes become familiar and normalised representations.
